The Watershed Approach to Hillside Landscaping: A Free Workshop For Native Gardeners of Laurel Canyon and Beyond
It’s officially fall — but for us Canyon native gardeners, it’s really spring! It’s when we are the busiest getting as many native plants into the ground so that they can establish strong roots during the winter rainy season.

Our Sunday October 12th workshop explores a breakthrough paradigm shift for thinking about your property and its grounds — as its own mini-watershed. We say breakthrough because your garden just may design itself around the way rainwater can be slowed, captured, and moved….

Yes, that does involve such ambitious ideas as water storage tanks, rain gardens, rain chains, swales, and slope engineering — and we will certainly go over all of that. But don’t let that scare you — once we understand watershed thinking, we can implement it in numerous ways, on every scale from small to large, and in stages over any time period we choose.

Our presentation will include a slide show of inspirational gardens that rely largely on natural rainfall for irrigation, but that manage not only to look great but to provide enormous benefits, i.e. replenishing our aquifers and supporting our local wildlife.

Curious? Bring your questions, and even some answers if you would like to share your own experience or research.

See you at 3pm on Sunday, June 8th under the oaks on the dome terrace!
